Have a presentation to give? Are you filled with fear? Practice, practice, and more practice is the key. To get the most out of your practice record yourself. Video record yourself practising or giving that presentation, watch it, and use as a tool to help improve your communication skills and reduce your fears.
This was one of the tips given at the 6 week speechcraft to improve communication skills; from the presentation Controlling Your Fears, part of the Toastmasters Better Speaker Series.
Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect. – Vince Lombardi
“Use your cell phone or have someone record your speech” says presenter and speechcraft coordinator Matthew Ogbulafor.
When you watch the video be aware of following, properly utilizing them will gain the attention of your audience.
- Your vocal variety – how loud you spoke, did you change your pitch and matched what you were saying?
- Your gestures – how did i use my hands, did it enhance my speech, did I show expression that matched my words?
- Your message – did i say what i wanted to?
Being nervous is natural, by video recording and watching it you can see opportunities for improvement and have the confidence when it is time to present.
The speechcraft that started on May 9, 2018 and runs until June 13, 2018 is presented by Brampton Talks Toastmasters Club and sponsored, as well as hosted by Real City Realty Inc., Brokerage. Running Wednesdays for 6 weeks, in the conference room at the Real City Realty office, it teaches the fundamentals of public speaking to 10 participants.
